About the Author

Serena Choo is a lifelong reader, storyteller, and questioner of the bigger picture.

She wrote The Monkey and the Way of Zen in honor of her Chinese heritage and a family lineage of royal scholars and officials — a quiet thread of wisdom that continues to shape her work.

As a teen, Serena loved writing — essays, poems, reflections — simply for the joy of it. But like many, adulthood brought a shift toward purpose and productivity. She spent her early career in accountancy and banking before moving into coaching and personal development, always trying to find the “right” niche or outlet for what she wanted to share.

It wasn’t until much later that the writing returned — this time as stories. What began as consciousness reflections gradually softened into a quiet, playful series of Zen-inspired tales. The Monkey appeared not as a teaching tool, but as a way to offer insight without instruction — a natural extension of Serena’s way of seeing.

A polymath by nature, she draws from diverse fields and perspectives, bridging intellect and intuition with quiet clarity. Her work invites readers to pause, breathe, and rediscover the freedom that’s been within reach all along.

The path isn’t about becoming more. It’s about remembering who you already are.
